FAQ
Everything You Need To Know
How long should I wear compression stockings?
Compression stockings should be worn until you can move freely. Wear them day and night to improve blood circulation, and you will see great progress over time. They are recommended for people who need immediate recovery from surgery and injury and for pregnant women. Choose your level of compression as recommended by your therapist or doctor.
What are compression stockings used for?
Compression stockings are used to improve blood flow in the legs and lower limbs. They apply gentle pressure that helps reduce swelling, prevent fluid buildup, and support circulation. People may wear them to manage varicose veins, lymphoedema, deep vein thrombosis (DVT), or after surgery to reduce the risk of blood clots. They're also commonly recommended for long-distance travel or during pregnancy to reduce discomfort or fatigue. Different compression levels and stocking types suit different needs, so it's important to choose the right fit and strength for your condition.
How do I know what compression level I need?
Compression stockings are available in different levels, usually measured in millimetres of mercury (mmHg). Lower levels (8–15 mmHg) are often used for mild swelling or travel. Medium levels (15–20 mmHg or 20–30 mmHg) are typically recommended for managing varicose veins, mild lymphoedema, or after surgery. Higher levels (30–40 mmHg or more) are used for more serious conditions and should only be worn under medical supervision. Always consult a doctor or healthcare provider before choosing a compression level, especially if you have circulatory or skin conditions.
How should compression stockings fit?
Compression stockings should feel snug but not painful. They should be tightest at the ankle and gradually decrease in pressure as they go up the leg. The fabric should sit smoothly without bunching or rolling, and the top band should stay in place without cutting into the skin. If stockings feel too tight, cause numbness, or leave deep marks, the size or compression level may be wrong. Accurate measurements around the ankle, calf and sometimes thigh are important to ensure a safe and comfortable fit.
